Latifa Tee Australia-based DJ and singer Latifa Tee answered some questions for Source.

The first track in you mixtape is yours. Is there a project on the way ?

I definitely have new music on the way! There’s a Cupid remix dropping soon & some visuals & definitely more music on the way for 2020. 

What’s your major influences as a singer ?

My Dad was a hiphop and RnB DJ in the 90s, so I’m super influenced by 90s RnB and the old school sound. But I’m also a sucker for alternative contemporary RnB! I love how artists are adapting the grooves and production flairs of old school RnB and experimenting to the current music scene. So I love Aaliyah, Lauryn Hill and Brandy, but also Frank Ocean, dvsn, Snoh Aalegra, Brent Faiyaz and Blood Orange.

What’s going on the Australian scene ? Who embodies the underground one ?

So much is going on in the Australian scene. From hiphop and drill music to RnB and funk, we have a lot of talent here & I’m so proud of how far our music scene has come. I think hiphop is really in the spotlight at the moment, and so the “underground” scene is really RnB - we’re yet to have our moment. At the moment, I really fuck with Blue Belly (dope band), 18YOMAN, Maina Doe, Planet Vegeta, Oh Boy and any track/remix produced by Sollyy. That guy is real underground talent.
